Top Ten Blocked Websites

2nd June - Submitted by Josh

Yes, this is probably old news to you, but if you didn’t know, these are the top 10 blocked websites and the top ten blocked categories. This was originally posted by OpenDNS. Moving back to the subject, here they are, in order.

Top 10 Most Blocked Web Sites:

1. myspace.com
2. facebook.com
3. youtube.com
4. ebay.com
5. mail.yahoo.com
6. friendster.com
7. meebo.com
8. playboy.com
9. hotmail.com
10. bebo.com

Top 10 Most Blocked Web Site Categories:

1. Phishing
2. Adult
3. Gambling
4. Social Networking
5. Hate/Discrimination
6. Dating
7. Alcohol
8. Weapons
9. Games
10. Video sharing

That’s obvious I hear you say! Well yes, it is. However how can we use this information to help us proxy owners? Well a few ways.

Firstly make your proxy compatible with these sites. Make sure your members can log into MySpace, FaceBook and Youtube.  and if you cant do that target and different area. Try and attract a different audience where they don’t have to log in.

Hopefully this will help you get more returning visitors and therefore more cash!

Josh

Hey Josh, this top ten list is fantastic. My work used to be very Big Brother-es and blocked all of these sites in your Top 10 (except for Yahoo Mail). Fater a while I think that the managers got upset they couldn’t check their own personal pages so they finally lifted it. I guess it makes sense to block theses sites, but it really pisses me off, sometimes I need a break. The only two I can understand are YouTube (too much bandwidth) and playboy (too much nakedness). You can post this to our site http://www.toptentopten.com/ and link back to your site. We are trying to create a directory for top ten lists where people can find your site. The coolest feature is you can let other people vote on the rankings of your list.
